Country portrait: Telekom Romania

This week, our web series “Country portraits of Deutsche Telekom Europe” takes us to Romania. Telekom Romania, our subsidiary made up of the two operators Telekom Romania Communications and Telekom Romania Mobile Communications, is the largest integrated player on the market there.
The Deutsche Telekom brand has been present on the Romanian market since the joint rebranding of Romtelecom and Cosmote Romania in 2014 – two operators which, together, boast more than 80 years of expertise in the Romanian telecommunications market. About 7,000 employees serve more than 6 million customers there, including thousands of large or very large companies and institutions, as well as hundreds of thousands of SMEs and SOHOs. This represents a significant market share.
The one-stop shop approach
Telekom Romania is one of the biggest players on the local IT&C market, offering a wide variety of turnkey solutions for the B2B segment. Covering fixed, mobile, and IT, the company provides advanced solutions ranging from managed services to desktop virtualization, unified communications, and IT security. It also offers a host of cloud computing solutions for vertical markets such as retail, HoReCa, banking, healthcare, transport and logistics, industry, startups, , education, and more. The company strengthened its position as a leading partner for the integration of B2B solutions, offering the best value for money for services that cover all of a business’s telecommunications and IT needs: fixed, mobile, and cloud. Its aim is to be a one-stop-shop for digital businesses, Telekom Romania runs two data centers in Bucharest and Brasov, and is planning to expand further over the next couple of years.
Highlights of 2016: 4G, VPN, and smart city
Last year, Telekom Romania maintained a leading position for managed virtual private networks, fixed Internet, and cloud IaaS in the B2B segments. The group also expanded its portfolio with the 4G experience, more benefits for roaming and international communications, as well as security solutions for business customers. Additionally, the company introduced several digital education solutions, like interconnectivity for schools and high schools with the help of telepresence, interactive blackboards, and a comprehensive digital catalog. Finally, Telekom Romania launched the first integrated smart city project in Romania: the initiative for Tineretului Park in Bucharest includes smart parking, Wi-Fi connectivity, city safety, and smart lighting components.
The star product: MagentaOne for business customers
MagentaOne proved to be a tremendous success after its launch in May 2015. Almost half of Telekom Romania customers now use this package, making it the only true FMCC (fixed-mobile convergent cloud) service on the market. Telekom Romania is also the market leader for fixed-line voice services. In mobile services, based on usage and market trends, the “Business Office” portfolio launched in the fourth quarter of 2016 gave customers more value for money with included 4G data bundles protected by Norton Security online, on any device of their choosing.
As part of its premium Internet data services, the company offers guaranteed Internet connections with speeds of up to one gigabit per second based on fiber-optic technology. In order to provide the best service availability throughout the country, Telekom Romania also offers backup connectivity on xDSL and 3G technology free of charge. In the field of VPN services, Telekom Romania maintained and secured its leading position, continuing to raise quality standards for our customers.
Highlights in 2017: security, cloud, and the IoT
This year, Telekom Romania is focusing on security, with several dedicated services in its portfolio: protected connectivity on all devices including security solutions for fixed and mobile equipment, and data storage in data centers with maximum protection guaranteed by secure Internet connections. In the future, the Internet of Things, cyber security, and the cloud will become key fields of development for the group.
The company has already taken it upon itself to educate the market in this regard, to help businesses understand the benefits of the technologies it provides – not the least of which is that they have the potential to drastically improve the efficiency of customers’ businesses.

“We reinvent ourselves continuously, taking customers’ needs as a starting point, and I believe this is the best source of innovation. Our aim is to become the first choice and trusted partner for both the private and public sectors in their migration process towards the digital economy. The main pillars of our one-stop shop approach to achieving this are fixed-mobile integrated offers and ICT solutions.”
