The Notion of Cloud-based ICT

On demand, immediately – this is what the cloud conveys. And even though the concept has been around for quite some time now, the notion of cloud-based information and communications technology (ICT) is still a contentious one.

Of course, there’s a reason the cloud was given its name: people’s data is stored remotely in a faraway, abstract place. The cloud itself isn’t tangible – only the graphs and figures that show up on someone’s smartphone screen are. The same can be said for cloud-based computer technology: The user doesn’t attach any importance to the abstract technology behind the cloud. He or she instead focuses on the immediate accessibility and use of information stored there – everything else is secondary.

In his article “On demand, immediately”, Gàbor Szabó, Head of Competence Centre – Managed Services in Hungary for T-Systems, elaborates on why this customer approach is so difficult for ICT companies to grasp and how this challenge can be best dealt with in the future.
