Improving customer experience with Cloud CPE
With nearly 95,000 attendees and more than 2,200 exhibitors, the Mobile World Congress (MWC) is THE gathering for the global wireless industry. Focusing on the latest innovations – 5G, mobile security, wearables, and the Internet of Things – Deutsche Telekom is of course among the exhibitors again this year with something new in store for SMB customers: Cloud CPE.
But first, a quick flashback: During last year’s MWC our CEO Timotheus Hoettges and Claudia Nemat, Board Member for DT Europe and Technology, announced the launch of our pan-European network: a state-of-the-art and cross-national IP network. Offering a central portfolio framework for each national company, we have proven that this technology is ready for commercial use after launching in Croatia, Hungary and Slovakia. Network functions are virtualised and orchestrated across different data centres using Cloud VPN – our first commercial product from the pan-European network.
Cloud VPN was the first service – introduced as a part of a Virtual Enterprise concept – that enables B2B customers easily and securely access important data from anywhere. This year, we are enhancing our Virtual Enterprise portfolio by showcasing a proof of concept at MWC that is now being developed in our Pan IP lab. As we continue to test the virtualisation of its CPE (Customer Premise Equipment) functions, we are calling it internally Cloud CPE.
The Cloud CPE solution marks a revolutionary step in enhancing traditional fixed-network services. Similar to Cloud VPN, Cloud CPE is delivered via our Pan IP network. The service utilises the leading technological concepts of service chaining and software defined networks (SDN). This results in a simple transition of existing legacy services to cloud-managed ones.
New service delivery model
Cloud CPE in essence stands for a profoundly improved customer journey, as it represents an innovative new way of delivering services by making the most of cutting-edge technologies. Cloud CPE offers our customers all the benefits of the Cloud service delivery model: Pay as you grow, try before buying, and activate/deactivate in a few clicks. In sum, it’s a personalised portfolio of services tailored to a customer’s specific business needs for scalability, flexibility, and security.
This service portfolio includes everything a company needs, ranging from firewall protection, intrusion prevention, and content filtering, as well as traffic shaping, monitoring and proactive reporting. It even offers cloud storage and server facilities. These services can all be managed centrally and flexibly as a cloud-managed solution on a monthly subscription basis, making this service ideal for any type or business size.
