One of the biggest data centers in Europe jumps into action for Coca-Cola HBC

Today, Greece hosts some of Coca-Cola HBC’s most important operations, which are supported by one of the greatest data centers in Europe. After winning the largest private-sector ICT deal in the history of the Deutsche Telekom Europe segment, the OTE Group has completed a large-scale implementation process of over a year on time and with no disruptions, and is now providing data center services to the Coca-Cola HBC group’s operations in 28 countries.

As part of the 43-million-euro deal awarded to OTE Group by the Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Company (Coca-Cola HBC), the Deutsche Telekom subsidiary in Greece built one of the largest data center facilities in the EMEA region to service business transactions for the company’s 36,000 employees in the 28 countries where it operates. Part of the agreement was the implementation of a disaster site at a T-Systems Hungary data center where, in case of an event, Coca-Cola HBC would run its operations. The transition project and implementation in the two data centers began simultaneously in September 2015. OTE Group had to set up the necessary infrastructure in both data centers to migrate Coca-Cola HBC’s databases and operational applications, such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Customer Relationship Management (CRM). It finally completed this migration within the agreed timeframes and without disrupting Coca-Cola Hellenic’s operations, making the first phase of the deal’s implementation a huge success. This achievement would not have been possible without excellent cross-border collaboration between OTE Group and T-Systems Hungary. Highly specialized OTE Group employees will now manage, operate, and support the data center’s system and data network infrastructure.

OTE Group’s state-of-the-art data center summed up in a few key figures:

  • Over 500 virtual servers and databases were installed in more than 70 physical servers.
  • Each server offers 600 terabytes of storage space.
  • The servers operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Going forward, this highly advanced data center will facilitate all of Coca-Cola HBC’s business operations and functions. Of these, ERP is perhaps the most demanding, with Coca-Cola HBC receiving more than 18.5 million orders annually, and requires the kind of computing power and storage capacity that only a dedicated facility like OTE Group’s could supply. The successful completion, on time and without disruption in Coca-Cola HBC’s business operations, proves that OTE Group has the size, expertise, and gravitas to implement large ICT projects on a global level.

International recognition at the WITSA Global ICT Excellence Awards

Together with the Federation of Hellenic Information Technology & Communications Enterprises (SEPE), OTE Group and Coca-Cola HBC submitted the project to represent Greece at the 2016 WITSA Global ICT Excellence Awards, which honor organizations for their excellence in using ICT systems to benefit society, the public sector, enterprises, or individuals. OTE Group’s cutting-edge data center for Coca-Cola Hellenic was nominated for the Private Sector Excellence Award in the Large Private Sector Investments category, and received a Merit Award on behalf of the country.
